Starcrawler Releases New Rough Trade Sessions – East Coast Dates

Los Angeles natives Starcrawler recently filmed a Rough Trade session just prior to a show at The Great Escape in Brighton in May on their first trip through the UK. They performed their debut single “Ants”, and its B-side, “Used To Know”.

Frontwoman Arrow de Wilde—who Classic Rock Magazine says is “what would have happened if Ozzy Osbourne and Patti Smith had got together in 1975 and had a kid”—remembers the day of the performance: “It was pissing rain. We recorded these sessions, Henri lost his voice, we played a crazy show at this club, then ate at a weird American diner on the boardwalk.”

Starcrawler has a kind of verve that can force elitists and cynics to acknowledge that there is in fact hope for the future of rock & roll. Their vital energy recalls that of bands like MC5, the Stooges, the Ramones, the Cramps, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, et al. They’re a young band with some members fresh outta high school, so it would seem that their potential has no limits. This is gonna be something to watch.

Geoff Travis, founder of Rough Trade, explains the label’s love for the band: “If you thought rock and roll was moribund, had lost its sense of fun and performance and primal power – it just means you haven’t seen Starcrawler yet.”

Check out Starcrawler’s Rough Trade Sessions, “Ants” official video, Pancake Mountain clip, and a quick Arrow de Wilde interview for Play Like a Girl, all below in the video playlist.

The band’s upcoming full-length LP was recorded by Ryan Adams, who says that Starcrawler is “the future of the RocknRoll legacy of bands like KISS, X, Sonic Youth & the Stooges. RAW X 1000”.

“Ants” b/w “Used To Know” came out earlier this year on Rough Trade Records on limited edition 7” vinyl, which has apparently already sold out. A second re-pressing is now in stock and available here.
