On June 2nd Young Guv released his new “Traumatic” single with “It Could Be Me” on the flip side. The 7” was released on Slumberland Records. Click here to order the 7” and digi. You can see both videos right here, below.
Young Guv released some of his first new music since he released one of 2015’s best album’s, ‘Ripe 4 Luv’. Aside from writing his own new songs, Guv writes chart-topping music for other high-profile pop artists, he acts, and he plays guitar for the Canadian melodic band Fucked Up—they also released a fucking fantastic new EP as a part of their ongoing Zodiac series—with whom Guv has recently engaged in some rigorous touring activity.
The songs were recorded at home on 1/4″ analog tape. They contrast the material on Ripe 4 Luv” perfectly. “Traumatic” rides on relatively subtle guitar presence that leads into a distinctly magnetic hook, and “It Could Be Me” is fortified by a classic ‘pop’-esque staple progression that sticks like bubblegum in your hair. Both of the videos were created by long-time collaborator Tristan CM.
The good word is that “Traumatic” and “It Could Be Me” are the first of a series of Young Guv audio postcards that should see continued releases over the coming months. Stay vigilant and check regularly for updated information on those new releases.
YoungGuv will be sticking with the single format and releasing new music when he is ready, rather than when the time dictates the release of another full-length “product.”
