Filmmaker Danny Garcia and Chip Baker Films have officially announced his latest project, ‘STIV: The Life and Times of a Dead Boy’, which will be the first real feature-length documentary film made focusing on the life of the legendary punk rock &roll icon, Stiv Bators. Check out the first trailer for the film below.
There’s an active IndieGoGo page for the film established and posted which can be visited by clicking here.
Stiv Bators was a highly influential early American punk pioneer who fronted two very different rock & roll bands. Each band was as important and necessary as they were influential in their respective scenes. The punk rock juggernaut outfit of the Dead Boys became essential NYC transplants by way of Cleveland, OH. Once the Dead Boys’ existential cycle was complete. Stive then set off for Europe and helped with the materialization of the London-based boundary smashing ‘goth’ precursors, The Lords Of the New Church.
The music created by the Dead Boys’ (e.g.”Sonic Reducer”) and The Lords’ (e.g. “Dance With Me”) continue to influence the mind’s and musical tastes of new fans coming from all facets of rock & roll.
Fueled by curiosity, vehement determination and, probably most importantly, his love and respect for his subjects, it seems like Danny rarely deviates from his work to stop for a breather. He mentioned his intention to cover Stiv’s story in a conversation during a call we had several months back, which was fresh off of the heels of the completion and screening rounds for his most recent stellar documentary ‘Sad Vacation: The Last Days of Sid and Nancy’. So it’s exciting to see that this project will soon come to fruition and be made available on a wide scale.
Over the last decade Danny Garcia has been building a rock solid reputation for himself by creating documentaries that cut through myths, romanticisms, inaccuracies, and other generalized bullshit. He has a knack for delivering truths and accessibility to stories that have captivated interest and imaginations for decades. His previous film’s include ‘The Rise and Fall Of The Clash’, ‘Looking For Johnny: The Legend of Johnny Thunders’, and ‘Sad Vacation: The Last Days Of Sid and Nancy’.
‘STIV: The Life and Times Of A Dead Boy’ has a tentative release date of May 2018.
